College of Fellows
AIA’s highest membership honor
AIA Fellows are recognized for their exceptional work and contributions to architecture and society. Founded in 1952, the AIA College of Fellows seeks to stimulate a sharing of interests among Fellows, promote the purposes of AIA, advance the profession of architecture, mentor young architects, and be of ever-increasing service to society. Less than 3% of AIA members hold the prestigious FAIA designation.

National Associates Committee (STARS)
The National Associates Committee is dedicated to representing and advocating for AIA’s associate members in AIA’s national, regional, state, and local chapters. Associate members automatically become part of the AIA KnowledgeNet community.

The National Associates Committee (NAC) is the voice of Associate members of AIA. Associates (21% of national AIA membership) are united by their desire to advance their careers while serving as a catalyst for progress in the Institute and the profession. The NAC consists of the Advisory Committee (AdCom) and the state volunteer leaders (State/Territory Associate Representatives (STARs). In total, there will be 63 members of the NAC in 2027. Apply to NAC AdCom online in May-June 2026 or apply to be a state representative via your state component in the summer/fall (see current list).
Time commitment: AdCom terms are two years with one required in-person (travel paid) annual meeting in Q1, monthly workgroup calls, and quarterly full committee calls. Expect to dedicate 10 hours per month to this role.
Small Firm Exchange
The Small Firm Exchange seeks to advance the mutual interests of architects practicing in small firms. The group advocates for them within AIA and outside organizations, promotes leadership development, and supports chapter roundtables and other small firm networks.

AIA Strategic Council
The AIA Strategic Council is a think tank dedicated to producing forward-thinking research on behalf of the architecture profession. It advances the profession of architecture by informing the AIA Board of Directors and other AIA bodies of important professional issues and opportunities.

Young Architects Forum
The Young Architects Forum addresses issues of particular importance to recently licensed architects, providing resources on leadership, mentorship, and fellowship useful to those launching their careers.

The Young Architects Forum (YAF) is a committee of AIA composed of architect members licensed for 10 years or less and is organized to address issues of particular importance to that member demographic. The YAF consists of the Advisory Committee (AdCom) and the state volunteer leaders (Young Architect Representatives). In total, there will be 63 members of the YAF in 2027. Apply to YAF AdCom online in May-June 2026 and apply to be a state representative via your state component (see current list).
