Electrochromic Glazing as a Dynamic Control of Solar Energy

Electrochromic glazing provides a dynamic solution to control solar heat gain and light, while preserving the view and connection to the outdoors. Numerous studies have shown improved learning environments, increased productivity, and better health outcomes when that view and connection to the outdoors is maintained. Electrochromics provides the capability to control solar gain and light levels based on outdoor conditions without blocking the view. Lighting, heating and cooling consume at least 65 percent of the energy used in a typical building, and effectively controlling solar heat gain has a major impact on all three factors. This course details how electrochromic glazing can be used to meter and control the amount of light and solar energy entering a building to provide optimum daylighting and energy efficiency. An introduction to electrochromics, use of zoning, variable tinting, and control strategies will be discussed. Electrochromic glass offers the unique capability to control light and heat dynamically based on actual conditions while preserving the view and connection to the outdoors.

For more information about this presentation, please visit the NWA AIA website.

Lunch will be provided, so please get there around 11:30 so we can order and eat on time.  RSVP to Ed Chitty of  Featured Systems if you plan to attend.
