The Sixth Avenue Plaza project brings new public space amenities to downtown Pine Bluff by: 1. Expanding an existing plaza 2. Converting a warehouse into a Food Hall for local fledgling restaurants 3. Converting a drive-thru bank branch into a retail incubator for local creatives and 4. Creating a new market plaza and pavilions for weekend events and festivals.
Project Statement
The Sixth Avenue Plaza development focused on restoring amenities to the beleaguered neighborhoods of downtown Pine Bluff. The district begins at the corner of Main Street and Sixth Avenue, midway between the Jefferson County Courthouse and Edward Durell Stone’s Pine Bluff City Hall complex. Across Main is the new Pine Bluff Public Library and to the south of the site, is the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff’s Economic Research and Development Center.
The first phase of the development expands the existing plaza the full length of the black, and converts a warehouse building into a Food Hall, and a drive-thru bank branch into the Mercantile retail incubator. Fronting Sixth Avenue are a series of Market Porches provided for shade and weekend market use.
