DESCRIPTION:The Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design will host the annual Career Fair from 1-5 p.m. Feb. 26\, 2019\, in Vol Walker Hall. We have invited firms and organizations from around the state and across the country to visit us and talk to our students about opportunities after graduation and/or internship possibilities. DESCRIPTION:Grassroots 2019 is AIA’s annual leadership and legislative event for elected chapter leaders and chapter staff. This year’s agenda emphasizes chapter and community leadership with workshops designed to help elected chapter officers become more effective chapter and civic leaders. Attendees share information\, ideas\, and best practices with their counterparts from around the country and are given the opportunity to provide input on AIA initiatives. There are also many networking opportunities with peers and AIA national staff. \nThis year’s theme is “People. Purpose. Partnerships.” We’ll feature content that highlights the voice of the profession\, the value of architects in society\, and the connections and collaborations necessary to improve the quality of the built environment for all people.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a hardhat tour of the UA Stadium Drive Residence Halls.  The Stadium Drive Residence Halls\, comprising a 202\,027-square-foot\, 708-bed facility at the University of Arkansas\, is the nation’s first large-scale mass timber residence hall project and living learning setting. A design collaborative led by Leers Weinzapfel Associates (Boston)\, Modus Studio (Fayetteville\, AR)\, Mackey Mitchell Architects (St. Louis)\, and OLIN (Philadelphia)\, created the project\, now under construction. Crafted with a palette of timber\, glass\, and metal\, it is a bold demonstration of sustainability that signifies a path to potential economic development for Arkansas’s burgeoning timber industry. \n“Cross-laminated timber — the most prevalent form of ‘mass timber’ — is a form of ‘super-plywood\,’ that is\, massive panels made of layers of dimensioned lumber adhered at 90 degree angles to each other\,” said Peter MacKeith\, dean of the Fay Jones School. “The entire laminate meets structural\, fire\, seismic\, health and other required building code specifications\, as must any construction material — and possesses great versatility in design and construction applications.
