The net energy savings to be realized in a properly insulated building are by now well understood\, and these savings are increasingly being required in stringent local building and energy codes. Current building science research and field monitoring data will also be presented\, demonstrating how the effective R values of various insulating materials will perform and change in differing regional climates\, temperature ranges\, and seasonal conditions. DESCRIPTION:“Code Help Today!” – A Crash Course in the IBC and More with Mark Whitaker\, Plans Examiner – Office of the Fire Marshal – State of Arkansas \nLocation: studioMAIN (413 Main Street\, Argenta)\nTime: 12:00 pm-1:00 pm (doors open at 11:45 am)\nSubmitted for 1 AIA CEU/HSW – Pending Approval \nMark Whitaker\, the Plans Examiner from the Arkansas State Fire Marshal’s office\, returns to us from Fayetteville with a long career in municipal public service. No stranger to Little Rock\, he served the building codes department for the city of Little Rock in various positions for 18 years in positions that included plans examiner\, plans examination administrator and deputy building official. \nWhile in Little Rock\, Whitaker also taught part-time in the ETAS Department of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for 12 years\, establishing and teaching a new senior level codes class as well as other construction classes. He has also served as the senior project construction manager for the Arkansas Department of Education\, which involved all new construction for grades K-12; overseeing and determining construction project funding\, code compliance to applicable fire\, building and PME regulations; and site visits for compliance on approved construction plans. \nWhitaker has also served on the International Code Council (ICC) National Storm Shelter committee and helped publish the inaugural edition of the ICC 500\, which is considered the premiere guidebook of Storm Shelter Design.
