DESCRIPTION:Architecture and Design Network is pleased to announce its fourth lecture of the 2022/2023 June Freeman lecture series: \n“Keeping Up the Joneses\, and More” with Greg Herman \nDate: Tuesday\, February 28th\, 2023 \nTime: 6:00 p.m.\, preceded by a reception at 5:30 p.m. \nPlace: Mixing Room @ The Paint Factory  | 1300 East 6th Street\, Little Rock\, AR 72202 \n  \nLITTLE ROCK\, AR. – Architecture and Design Network (ADN) continues its 2022/2023 June Freeman lecture series with “Keeping Up the Joneses\, and More”\, a preservation-focused lecture with Greg Herman\, Associate Professor at the University of Arkansas Fay Jones School of Architecture + Design. \nGreg Herman will share about his recent preservation-related activity\, the importance of documentation\, and some of the buildings that made him want to be an architect. He has led HABS documentation on several mid-century modern structures in Fayetteville\, including the Fay and Gus Jones House and Hantz House\, both designed by Fay Jones; Deepwood House\, designed by Herbert Fowler; Segraves House\, designed by Warren Segraves; and Williams House\, designed by John G. Williams. \nA member of the faculty at the University of Arkansas’ Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design since 1991\, Gregory Herman has taught at all levels of the curriculum\, with a focus on design\, history / theory topics\, and cultural preservation sub-topics. He has presented and published in diverse subject areas\, many of them engaging in an effort to bring the works of Fay Jones to broader academic and lay audiences. He is a listed author of the recently published Buildings of Arkansas\, from the Buildings of the United States series (UVA Press\, 2018). He has documented several Jones-designed houses for the Historic American Buildings Survey\, garnering a number of awards\, including this past December for his students’ documentation of Jones’ Brothers House in Fayetteville. His current research efforts are focused on two grants\, one from the National Endowment for the Humanities for the purpose of developing a collaborative interactive digital experiences of Jones’ built works\, and one from the National Trust for Historic Preservation for the ongoing restoration of the Fay and Gus Jones House in Fayetteville\, Arkansas\, a National Register-listed property owned by the University of Arkansas. \nADN lectures are free and open to the public. No reservations are required.
