Continuing Education Requirements
Continuing education requirements differ per governing body. Below are the requirements for both AIA membership and Arkansas licensure.
Both membership and continuing education requirements for AIA (national, state and local) are on a calendar year, January through December. AIA members are required to complete a total of 18 continuing education hours annually. Of those 18 hours, 12 hours must be health, safety, and welfare (HSW) education. The remaining 6 hours can be either HSW or general Learning Units (LU). The credit requirement for Sustainable Design (SD) is no longer in place.
(18 TOTAL, 12 HSW, 6 additional hours LU or HSW)
Individual license renewal are required by July 31st annually. Each Arkansas registered architect is required to complete a minimum of twelve (12) continuing education hours each CALENDAR year. (ie. Renewals in 2014 will include CEH earned from January – December of 2013) All twelve (12) CEHs must be completed in HSW subjects acquired in structured educational activities.
For more information on CEH requirements for license renewals visit the Arkansas State Board of Architects, Landscape Architects and Interior Designers.
